The Ultimate Autumn Self Care Ritual Ideas

October is here, so what better time to create the ultimate self-care ritual for the chilly seasons. Autumn and winter can be a nightmare for my skin due to the colder weather (and probably due to the stress of the holiday season) and if I don’t have some sort of skin/self care routine I have massive eczema flare-ups which cause my skin to dry out so bad which then makes me have major anxiety, it really is just a domino effect with my health when I am suffering with skin issues, my immune system gets weaker, my face dries out, my body gets red and itchy all over, I get so self-conscious whenever I need to leave the house and it makes me just feel like crap in general. That’s why I created a self-care ritual that helps keep my body, mind and soul healthy all through the colder weather.

I dedicate time on a Sunday evening to my self care ritual and it is based on some of these tools and methods that not only help me stay healthy but they also help me create time for myself which honestly I never use to do often but now I love spending quality time on my own doing things I love or trying new project and exploring different interests. It has made me realise how important it is for us to spare even just an hour out of our week for our self to do something that makes us happy and brings joy, sometimes in life we can become too busy working jobs were not that happy in just to pay the bills and trying to fit in socialising with friends and family but we forget to make time for the most important person, our self.

It reminds me of the saying I read somewhere that goes along the lines of you can’t pour from an empty cup so fill your own cup and let the rest benefit from the overflow, and it is so true you can’t give your best if your running on empty and not setting quality time aside for yourself. Below I am sharing some ideas you can add into your autumn self care ritual that will make you feel happy and composed.

Mind

I start my ritual night by lighting candles, I then include a cuppa and change into some warm PJ’s, put fluffy socks on and then get the room feeling all cozy and relaxing by lighting some candles, spraying some soothing aromatherapy scents and playing some uplifting music or inspiration podcasts before I start to unwind and prepare for my self-care ritual, I find I feel so calmer and more grounded by the candle light and warmth which makes it easier to keep my mind healthy. After this my mood is set for the night and I can carry out my ritual in a positive mood.

Journaling

Journaling is a great tool for healing and clearing the mind and what makes them so great is that you can create them to suit your lifestyle and needs. I tend to use my journal to set weekly goals, plan out my week, write down any affirmations, thoughts, feelings, memories, goals etc. A great tip I leant from my auntie was to write down 5 things that made you happy every single day, this is great to look back on and remember all the different things we have been grateful for or that made us smile.

Meditate

A great way to be mindful is to practice mediation, it has been used as an alternative therapy for many of years to feel connected and become more aware of our mind.

Unplug

Disconnecting from technology and social media for a day (even a few hours) can be so beneficial for our minds, we live in a world where people are constantly online (myself included) so to take a break now and again is beneficial to our health. When you do unplug this provides the perfect opportunity to fill your time with doing something fun, you could learn a new skill like art or an instrument you have been wanting to learn.

Nature walk

I really enjoy my crisp evening walk with my dog and for me that’s the best and easiest way for me to clear my mind and find inner peace. My friends and I use walking as a form of therapy it helps so much if you feel overwhelmed or stressed. I also love taking photos of the views when I’m out on a nature walk and looking back on them (especially all the autumn pictures!)

EFT Tapping

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) also known as tapping is a simple self-help technique that helps with emotional issues such as stress, anxiety and low self-esteem. I don’t use eft tapping as much as I would like but it is a very effective way to help get rid of any limiting beliefs you may have, Brad Yates has so many YouTube videos on EFT tapping if you want to check them out.

Read

Reading is great for our mind, I have found myself reading more motivational and personal development books lately but any book you love would be perfect for keeping your mind healthy and happy.

De-clutter

Anytime I feel overwhelmed and unorganised I add de-cluttering to my ritual which I feel also helps de-clutter my mind, and it’s an instant relief when I know the build-up of junk letters that were gathering in the top drawer or my bag (which I was starting to struggle to find anything in due to roughly 1264 receipts that I don’t know why I keep, lists and other random junk) has been organised and de-cluttered.

Adult-colouring

Anytime I bring out my adult colouring book I get so lost in it and before I know it Its 3 hours later, it feels like some sort of therapy for your mind it just takes all your troubles away for a while your invested in your art. If you haven’t tried adult colouring I would recommend it so much.

Sleep

Its no secret that sleep is the one of the most important things to keep our mind healthy and happy so start making sleep a priority.

Body

Skin care routine

My weekly skincare routine to help keep my eczema away and keep my skin looking and feeling healthy in the cold weather, this includes:

Face mask

DIY Hair mask

Full body exfoliate

Full body ultra-hydrating moisturize

DIY night-time face cream

Eyebrow/Eyelash serum

Yoga

Yoga is such a great way to keep fit and healthy, you don’t need to go to the gym, you don’t need to invest in expensive equipment, and you don’t even need to leave your house! Just turn on YouTube and find a 15 minute yoga video and follow along in the comfort of your own home, I am still a yoga newbie but I honestly love it, I feel so great and energised after a yoga session.

Hydrate

Water is so important for our body, if we don’t keep hydrated it can cause so many problems for our health such as fatigue, headaches, low blood pressure and dry skin.

Eat nourishing food

Eating healthy food is a must for our bodies to feel good and have the energy and nutrients we need, as the saying goes you are what you eat! I am not saying you need to eat a load of kale or spinach, just start by swapping one thing a day you normally eat to a more healthier option.

Soul

Vision Board

Spending time creating a vision board is such a fun way to visualize your dream life, my vision board consists of pictures of my dream car, dream house, inspirational quotes, pictures that represent my dream businesses and dream travel destinations. Anytime I look at my vision board it makes me feel happy, it reminds me of why I am working so hard on my blog and with work so that I can turn my vision board into a reality. Pinterest has loads of vision board ideas and posts where you can read how you can use a vision board to manifest your dreams.

Find Your Souls Purpose

I believe that every person on earth was created for a purpose, and in life we are given signs and opportunities to keep us on the right tracks of finding out and reaching our souls purpose, our desires, our greater selves and creating the life we love. Think about what fulfills you? What do you believe your soul purpose is? There are also quizzes you can find online to find out what your purpose is.

write your dreams and aspirations

Writing down your dreams, goals and aspirations is a fun way to manifest your dream life, when things are written down it is always easier to hold yourself accountable by taking action and working hard to achieve your goals.

Crystals

Crystals are a great way to connect with the mind, body and soul, I use them on a daily basis and couldn’t be without them! No matter how I am feeling – anxious, nervous, confused, angry, sad, there is always a crystal that can help heal from any emotions. I love how pretty crystals too, are my favourite is rose quartz which is known as the ‘love stone’, this helps boost self-love and self-confidence and always helps me when I need to clear my heart chakra or release any negative energy. I love this rose quartz piece!

You can adapt your ritual depending on how you feel and how much time you have, I try to add a few ideas from each category to my ritual so I can spend time focusing on each to help balance my mind, body and soul.

  1. What a fantastic post! I love spending Sunday taking care of myself and preparing for the week ahead.
    I love to write and I try to make my journal a part of every day. I also do happy days, each day i find one thing in the day that has bought me true happiness and it has completely changed my mind set.

    We are so important and learning to nurture us is so important x
